We want you to feel very much involved in Nursery life and aim to keep you as informed as possible, both about your child’s development and Nursery issues. Our policies can be viewed in the foyer and copies will be available on request. Daily, informal communication will be the main source of information and we encourage your contributions and suggestions. When you collect your child from Nursery we will inform you about how much they have eaten during the day and about nappy changes, along with activities they have been involved in.
We have an ‘open door’ approach and welcome you at any time, no appointment is necessary. We understand you may want reassurance that your child is happy at Nursery, therefore you are invited to call us at any time throughout your child’s session. Practitioners are on hand to answer any questions you may have, but if you prefer to speak to a Manager there will always be one available to discuss any queries or problems, no matter how small. We always welcome an extra ‘pair of hands and if you would like to help out at any of our sessions please speak to a Nursery Manager.
We will provide you with information about the current learning and development opportunities offered, and about how you can help in the learning process at home. Practitioners will take photographs while interacting with your child, and we will endeavour to show you these whenever possible. This is aimed at helping you share and discover the exciting experiences your child has taken part in.
CCTV is installed throughout the Nursery with a monitor located in the office that you can view at any time. We want to reassure you that your child is happy at Nursery, and hope that the opportunity to watch them playing naturally will give you peace of mind. Cameras are also situated on all entrances and exits which contributes to keeping the Nursery safe and secure.
Your child’s progress will be closely monitored by their key people and other Nursery practitioners who will keep you up to date with their development on a regular basis. Each child has their own electronic development portfolio known as a ‘Learning Journey’ which contains photographs and observations, and evidence of their progress. We take the observations and photographs on our nursery ipads and email them securely to you at regular intervals. You may wish to print off the pages and make a folder to keep them in - your child will love to look at this with you!
We use the Local Authority’s assessment tool ‘On Track’ to chart each child’s progress on a termly basis against the areas of learning and development in the Early Year Foundation Stage, and to help us see if there are any areas where your child is excelling, or requires a little additional support. We very much value any input from parents and carers, both to their learning journeys (you can email in photographs and information to us) and letting us know on a daily basis about what they have enjoyed at home, or any milestones they have reached.
